Activity Recording


Taking time to look back over design & development history, Activity Recording has set a global identity for itself in terms of functionality. The following are the function points of Activity Recording implementation in IDS DataNet2.



  1. In the area of well-centric data recording, operational activity is entered as discreet events, as it aims to achieve both time tracking and depth tracking capabilities.

  2. IDS screen or user interface (UI) design for any particular screen takes into account various factors such as:

    • Frequency of record updates during a well/operation
    • Number of records entered in a day
    • And potentially whether a screen is viewed/ entered by different roles (or engineers) working on rotation.

      For better user experience, the design considers the nature of data accessibility & changes in requirements between different clients and/or regions.
  3. During pre-deployment to a client-site or data setup stages, there will be activity code hierarchy setup that allows for data consistency by filtering codes. This compliments with capabilities such as Best Practices Codes and Fixed Text Remarks.

  4. It has been aligned to O&G operational data entry practices that facilitate data for the daily morning report, and therefore next day activity allows entry from midnight to 0600 hrs daily. For better user experience, data from the next day activity is populated into the current day to allow continuity in data entry.

  5. Other customisations are also done so that DataNet2 Activity is adapted to usability scenarios across the O&G industry

    1. For Rig Contractor usage different terms such as Primary and Sub Time Code are adopted, and using back a modular D2 system with customisation on the user interface design level.

    2. Safety records in another data entry screen are linked, as seen in Activity data entry extensions for Lessons Learned data recording.

    3. Fields are available for Simultaneous Operation (SIMOP) to cater for dual or parallel running activity recording.



    4. For Norwegian clients, data entry & reporting design are aligned with Norwegian Petroluem Directorate (NPD) regulatory reporting requirements.

    5. Activity batch coding features allows multiple activity records to be updated simultaneously.
